The Madeira Island is a unique wine region in which for more than 500 years extraordinary wine has been produced.
Madeira Wine is one of the most impressive wines in the world. It has an energy and a rare complexity. When we recount the story of Madeira Wine we are also recounting a lot of the island’s history.. This traditional product has always been transported to the four corners of the world. It has been exported since the sixteenth century, shortly after the colonisation of Madeira and has been present in many remarkable episodes in the history of mankind.
There are many reasons why we celebrate this exceptional Madeira nectar. Madeira Wine has been the main engine of the regional economy, it ensures a beautiful vineyard landscape, provides work for many vinyers and it is still appreciated across borders ... It’s actually a fabulous wine liqueur!
Every year during the last week of August and the first week of September, and while the harvest throughout the island is taking place, we celebrate our Wine Festival.
This great Festival began more or less 40 years ago. It takes place in Funchal city and includes the European Week of Folklore with decorations, presentations and exhibitions about Wine and its harvest. There are also several shows and traditional music. On the last days of the Festival the festivities take place in Câmara de Lobos with the Feast of the Harvest.
Enjoy the flavours of Madeira Wine in our cellars and at the streets stalls., Over the week the unmistakable aroma of Madeira wine lingers in the air and is accompanied by street performances, music, and many others events just for you!
