Madeira Flower Festival
The Flower Festival takes place in April, or May - 4 weeks after Easter - when the flowers are in bloom . Also known as the island of flowers or the floating garden, Madeira has the perfect climate for blossoms to thrive! Flowers grow everywhere. In backyards, gardens and even on the roadside. This is why we choose to celebrate!
The Flower Festival is a tribute to Spring! It is a tribute to the Flower!
In the city centre of Funchal along the central promenade of Avenida Arriaga, the famous floral carpets are created and at “Praça da Restauração” the traditional exhibition takes place followed by the Flower Market. The “Wall of Hope ceremony” – where more than a thousand children parade towards the “Praça do Município” to put a flower in the “Wall of Hope “ which symbolizes a call for peace in the world - has been taking place for more than 30 years
Imagine a city where everything is about flowers. Where the sidewalks are covered with flower carpets, where a wall of hope is lined with flowers, where a fantastic and beautiful parade is held in honour of flowers ... During this flower festival week everything in Madeira is about flowers. And there are thousands and thousands of them, in exhibitions in decorations, on parade floats in store windows ....Why say more? It is a show of sheer beauty that we are very proud of in Madeira! Currently this is one of the most sought after seasons for visitors so select your hotel for the next year!
