Cabo Girao

The Cape Girão to the west of Funchal is known to be the highest seacliff in Europe and the second highest in the world! Its 580 meters height, make this a “must see” of the Madeiran tourist circuit.

It has always been one of the main attractions in Madeira, but recently, with the construction of the new viewing platform, it gained a more important and exciting role. A new structure built at the highest point of the cliff offers a unique sensation: standing on a glass and steel platform 580 meters above sea level, where you can see the impressive cliff face directly beneath your feet, while at the same time enjoying a panoramic view of vast Atlantic ocean  surrounding Câmara de Lobos and Funchal. It’s a mixture of adrenaline and enchantment at the same time!

Once you are at Cabo Girão you should also visit the “Fajã dos Padres ” located in the lower area. Due to its difficult access – via a lift with a limited schedule or by boat – you get an amazing sense of privacy on a spectacular beach with crystal clear waters. You will also find small plantations of local farmers. Fajã dos Padres is a paradise inside another Paradise... Madeira!

When visiting the viewpoint Cabo Girão, you will also find one of the most important chapels in Madeira Island: the “Nossa Senhora de Fátima” chapel .
